Post Doctoral Fellows (Fellowship Stream) (PDF’s) are eligible to enrol in the UPEI Student Union insurance policy pending they provide the necessary information to opt in and pay the application fee.
Please note that insurance cannot be backdated, therefore, PDF’s should be in contact with the Plan Administrator prior to needing insurance coverage.
Insurance coverage terminates each year on August 31st, unless otherwise noted. PDF’s are responsible for renewing coverage each year, pending they would like to stay insured.
In order to be eligible for this policy, you must be: under the age of 65, covered under a Provincial Health Care Plan or equivalent, and you must pay the applicable fee(s) before any related deadline(s).
If a post-doc is Canadian, they would only be eligible to acquire the extended health and/or dental insurance; not the international medical policy.
If a post-doc is international, they would be eligible to acquire the international medical plan, as well as the extended health and/or dental insurance. The international medical policy acts in place of a PEI health card; however, it does have certain limitations and restrictions, so it is advised that anyone apply for a PEI health card, should they be eligible to do so. (This policy is only applicable for international students)
PDF’s are not required to opt into all of the applicable policies; for example, should someone solely want dental coverage, they are free to only opt into that portion of the insurance.
Please contact admin@upeisu.ca for information on pricing, as fees are subject to change each year.
