18 Jan NEW YEAR, NEW CO-OP: VIDEO GAME CO-OP READY TO LAUNCH
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
01/18/2021 – Charlottetown, PE
The UPEI Student Union has launched the Video Game Co-Op, a free video game console rental service created and funded by the UPEISU.
“As someone who has been planning events for students for years now, it is not uncommon to hear UPEI students voice that they believe there is not much to do in PEI in the winter,” states Vice President Student Life, Jose Gonzalez. “I hope this service provides students with an alternative form of entertainment which is easy to access, set-up, and can be enjoyed safely from the comfort of their own homes during this global pandemic we are living through.”
In this newly developed program, students will be able to rent out a variety of different “retro” or classic gaming consoles from the Student Union! All of these consoles will be provided with all the equipment necessary to set-up as well as a catalogue of pre-loaded games. The easy “plug-in and play” nature of these systems will allow both gamers and casual players to enjoy this service alike! This service is free to all UPEI students and consoles can be checked out for a two-week period.
“In order to use the console, students will first have to fill out a request form available on our website. They will then be contacted regarding their rental period, and can pick up the console at the Student Union office. They will be given a quick explanation on how to set-up the system, and off they go!” said Gonzalez. “Keep an eye on the UPEISU social media channels these next couple weeks, as we’ll be releasing infographics and videos related to this service.”
The UPEI Student Union is looking forward to the changes that the new initiative may bring to the rest of the campus, and to the community as a whole. The VPSL hopes that he will be able to expand the service, if enough interest is shown by UPEI students.
