The University of Prince Edward Island Student Union applauds the commitment of the UPEI Board of Governors and the UPEI Faculty Association to return to the negotiating table.

“The decision to return to the negotiating table shows leadership and a renewed commitment on the part of both parties to reach a new collective agreement,” said Nathan Hood, President of the UPEI Student Union.

In a joint news release distributed by UPEI and the Faculty Association on June 15, it was announced that, after informal discussions, both parties have committed to resuming their negotiations. It was also announced that both parties had agreed to withdraw all conciliation and legal action.

“The Student Union’s priority has been to ensure that students do not miss a day of classes or work,” added Hood. “We are happy that the Faculty Association and the Board of Governors have respected this priority and we hope they will continue to keep it in mind as they continue negotiations.”

The UPEI Student Union remains steadfastly optimistic that the Board of Governors and the Faculty Association will be able to reach an agreement that is fair for both parties and respects the best interests of students without requiring a work stoppage.
