25 Feb WUSC Survey
Each year, students from the World University Service of Canada (WUSC) committee at UPEI sponsor a student from a refugee camp, allowing this student to come study at UPEI and become a permanent resident of Canada.
All full time UPEI students currently contribute $3 per semester to this sponsorship. The current rate is enough to sponsor one student and cover the expenses for their first year at UPEI.
We would like to increase the student contribution from $3 per semester to $7 per semester.
Why?
• To increase the number of students sponsored in response to an increased number of refugees worldwide
• To extend financial support for the students over their entire degree since many sponsored students were not graduating from UPEI because the sponsorship only helped them in first year.
