On March 12, 2018, a group of UPEI Student Union councillors put forward an official notice of a motion of non-confidence for President Chelsea Perry.
The motion of non-confidence reads as follows: “I would like to make the motion that the UPEISU Council impeach President Chelsea Perry due to a non-confidence in the executive member to adequately fulfill the requirements and expectations of the position of President of the UPEISU.”
According to the UPEISU Constitution, this notice of motion must be publicized to the Council member’s constituency, that is, the UPEI student body, for at least one week. If at the following meeting of Council, which will fall on March 25, 2018, the motion is passed by a two-thirds majority of Council, the Councillor-in-question is declared impeached. On March 13, 2018, shortly after this motion was made, President Perry handed in a letter of resignation. The letter is available at the bottom of this release. According to policies of the UPEISU, Council must accept this resignation in order for it to go into effect. This resignation will be voted on at the March 25, 2018 meeting.
